Microlearning project

Helping learners find a story, shape it, and build with confidence.

The Spark is a short, self-paced learning experience that helps learners move from a vague idea to a clearer digital story. It keeps the process guided, low-pressure, and practical.

Audience

Graduate-level educators and instructional designers.

Role

Instructional design, learning experience design, and eLearning development.

Tools

Articulate Rise, Microsoft Word, and ChatGPT.

Focus

Helping learners build confidence with creative digital work.

Overview

The problem was not that learners could not consume media. It was that creating felt unclear.

Many learners are comfortable watching, reading, and sharing digital media, but creating a digital story can feel more intimidating. The challenge is often not the tool. It is knowing where to start.

The Spark reframes storytelling as a guided process. Learners move from idea, to script, to storyboard, with examples and prompts that reduce pressure.

The design keeps the experience short and focused so learners can make progress without getting stuck in theory or technical details.

Why this page matters

This page is written for people who want to see the thinking behind the work.

It focuses on the problem, the design choices, the learner experience, and what the project shows about my approach to learning and performance.

Need

What the learning needed to solve

01

Unclear structure

Learners needed a simple way to turn a meaningful moment into a clear narrative.

02

Creative anxiety

The open-ended nature of storytelling can make learners hesitate before they even start.

03

Weak connection to media choices

Learners needed support connecting story purpose, audience, visuals, audio, and pacing.

Design response

How I shaped the learning experience

01

Start with a meaningful moment

The course begins with a low-pressure prompt that helps learners identify something worth telling.

02

Scaffold the story

Learners move through idea, script, and storyboard instead of being asked to create everything at once.

03

Use examples and templates

Guided examples make the process easier to follow and reduce the blank-page feeling.

04

Build confidence through choice

The experience gives structure while still leaving room for personal voice and creative direction.

What it shows

What people should look for in this project

  • How the project connects to a real learner need
  • How complex information is organized into something easier to use
  • How the format supports practice, confidence, judgment, or performance
  • How the design choices match the context instead of relying on one default course format

Learning Design Performance Support Practical Application

This project belongs in my portfolio because it shows more than an artifact. It shows how I think through the audience, the work, the constraints, and the kind of support that would actually help.
